Bringing Singles Together

Like CWN on Facebook

The Prez Says --

“Single and looking for something to do?”.

CWN is pleased to announce that Sara Bredesen has volunteered to serve on the CWN Board of Directors and assume the duties of Vice President. She was appointed by the President, and approved by the Board at their September 24 meeting. Welcome Sara!

The next CWN Dance is at the Moose on October 19, celebrating Halloween. Costumes are encouraged but not required. October also brings the start of five Sundays of Ballroom Dance Lessons. Check out the newsletter or web site for details of these and other events.

A scheduling note – the November 2 CWN Dance has been relocated to the Ashley Ballroom. (Our mutually beneficial financial agreement for dances at the Moose Family Center offers us a good rate on the facility, with the Moose having the option of bumping us if they get a chance for a lucrative wedding booking.)

Help Still Wanted (and needed)

We are looking for people interested in helping with the Social Committee, -- coordinating, sometimes sponsoring, and always communicating our events. We also need a Secretary, and additional Board members. Like many organizations, CWN also faces the challenges of keeping our club active and getting enough member participation. Please contact me or another Board member if you are interested or have other ideas.

CWN had 22 members who enjoyed the camping experience in Door County. OK, a few actually “motel camped” in town, but everyone benefited from the great weather for hiking, biking, discussions, theater, dining, and camp fires. We are planning a repeat in September 2020 for the Door Country camping experience. Also see the last page of the Newsletter for a “save the date” and “you might want to make your own camping reservations soon” for camping in early August 2020 at Fire Fly Lake near Boulder Junction.

September is CWN membership renewal month. Get your form in before the end of the month to save $5. Use the form included with the newsletter email or from the web site.

Enjoy the Fall, and say yes to adventure.

THE SPITFIRE GRILL
"Say What Ya Want - Say What Ya Will - Somethin's Cookin' at the Spitfire Grill!" by James Valcq
Lyrics and Book by Fred Alley
Based on the Film by Lee David Zlotoff
Directed by Mark Hanson

A torn page from an old travel book sparks parolee Percy Talbot to journey to a small town in Wisconsin. There she finds a new life working at the Spitfire Grill. The folks in this depressed town have more to worry about than Percy's past, but fear and hesitancy turn to friendship when Percy schemes to revive the old grill by raffling it off. The entry fee is one hundred dollars, and the best essay on why you want the grill wins. Soon mail is arriving by the wheelbarrow full, and things are definitely cookin' at the Spitfire Grill.

Seating will be limited and is not assigned so ticket purchase can be on your own. Tickets can be purchased on the UWSP Box Office website. Cost is $26 or $23 senior.

Hope to see you there!

Camping At Fire Fly Lake -
Friday, August 7, 2020

Fire Fly Lake Campground - Click for Google Maps Map
10269 County Hwy N
Boulder Junction WI 54512

SAVE THE DATE FOR Additional 2020 CAMPING

After a very successful first-time camping weekend in the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest this year (2019), those who took part asked to have it repeated but possibly with a few extras…like hot showers!

For 2020, save the weekend of Aug. 7-9 for another camp out. We will be going to Firefly Lake Campground where there are hot showers and running water at a central building and pit toilets/hand pumps if you choose. There are no electric hookups in any of the sites.

Firefly has both reservable and drop-in sites. Your hosts (Floyd and Sara) will be roughly near sites 269/270, if you want to find a place close to the action. Reservations through WI DNR can be made up to 11 months in advance of the camping start date at https://wisconsin.goingtocamp.com/. This campground usually has open sites, but it is popular in August, so think about reserving early for the best locations.

Contact: questions to: Sara at 715-360-7253 or stbrede@gmail.com or Floyd at 715-680-1304 or floydkayakk@frontier.com.
