CWN President's Letter -

Bringing Singles Together

Like CWN on Facebook

The Prez Says --

“Single and looking for something to do?”.

CWN is fortunate with the recent addition of two Directors to our Board. We could still use more help. Elections for the 2020 Board will be in February, a very easy campaign, and an almost 100% chance of being elected. See me for details.

The next CWN Dance is December 14 at the Moose and plan for the special New Year's Eve dance Tuesday December 31.

Check out the Newsletter for lots of dancing and dining options (including a newly opened Plover restaurant), a movie, Dale's Wedding Dance for his students, and a Christmas Gathering before the Dance on the 14th.

Be sure to check out the Winter Getaway in Minocqua. The deadline is January 1, so it will come up fast.

Seek out the expanded “Save the Date” section -- entries include the CWN Dances for January through May 2020.

Merry Christmas.

Say yes to adventure.

New Year's Day Walk in the Woods, Drinks and Dine Out -

Schmeeckle Reserve - Click for Google Maps Map
2419 North Point Drive

It’s Ti-i-i-i-ime! Time to RSVP for your place at the Hibachi table where your food is cooked right before your eyes!

5th Annual New Year’s Day Walk in the Woods and New Year’s Drink and Dine out. Come for one, two or all three parts of this popular annual event!

Wednesday, January 1, 2020

3:00 p.m. - Where to meet for the walk:
Everyone interested in the walk meets in the parking lot at Schmeeckle Reserve Parking lot, 2419 North Point Drive , Stevens Point. From there we stroll through the woods and around the lake, approximately one mile on clear, packed trails. Beautiful walk, little to no wind. Walking at a pace conducive to conversations with fellow walkers. We usually stop and climb the stairs to the tree platform to take a group picture.

4:15 p.m. - Where to meet for a drink and a chat:
Between the hike at Schmeekle and dinner at Tokyo Steak House several walkers and some non-walkers meet up at Pete’s Sports Bar located at 200 Division St., Stevens Point in the back of the building which also houses Olympic Restaurant. Best parking is on the side of the building near Pete’s door.

4:45 p.m. - Where to show up for the dinner:
Dinner reservations are at Tokyo Steak House, 1617 Academy Ave., Stevens Point NOTE: Restaurant doors open at 4:30 p.m.

Okay, here is the catch.

We have reserved 2 hibachi tables at Tokyo Steak House. Each table seats 8 comfortably. In previously years due to “walk ins” we managed to squeeze in 10 or so at each table. Sorry, but without your name on the reservation list this year you risk having to sit at a regular table, separate from the group. However, if enough people RSVP early we might be able to reserve a third hibachi table.

Moral of the story.

We fill up every year. Best to RSVP NOW. Contact Deb at debzura@att.net or 715-344-3402 Don’t miss out!

Great tradition to start the New Year with friends, laughter and FIRE!

Receipt of your non-refundable check payable to Mike Miller (no later than January 1, 2020) will confirm your condo reservation. Any questions - call and leave a message at (715) 693-1650 or send an email to mgmiller.miller26@gmail.com

Everyone will be responsible for their own arrangements. I can attach the list of names and email addresses of everyone attending in the event you wish to carpool.

We can check into the Beacons at 4 p.m. Friday. Check out is 10 a.m. Sunday. Just give them my name when you get there. The number of the unit you are in is listed on the list of participants. They will have several keys for each unit at the front desk. The website is www.thebeacons.com, and their phone number is 715-356-5515.

Take I-39 North to Minocqua. Watch for the bowling alley on the left hand (West) side of the road on the south end of Minocqua. The road right past the bowling alley is Northern Road. (If you cross the bridge into Minocqua you have gone too far. Turn around and come back!!) Turn left (West) onto Northern Road. Go 1.25 miles and turn right into the driveway. The building we are staying is on the right side (east) of the parking lot. We are in units 350 and 352. You can take the elevator up right from the parking lot with bags and belongings. The check-in desk is in the main building just to the north of the building we are staying in. If you have a Garmin or smart phone, simply enter in the destination address for the Beacons at 8250 Northern Rd, Minocqua.

Bring your own snacks and beverages. Saturday night we will do a potluck. I will bring a main dish of some kind and am open to suggestions/requests. We always have an abundance of food, so if two of you want to go together to bring one dish to pass to go with it I think that will be fine, or if you want to bring a bottle of wine or other beverage to share, whatever you would like.

What to Bring:

SWIMSUIT if you want to take advantage of the pool and sauna.
Ice Skates for the lighted rink at The Beacons.
Food and Beverages for snacks, breakfasts, and lunch.
Dish to pass for Saturday night dinner
Games and/or reading material
(All sheets, blankets, towels, cooking dishes and utensils, coffeepot, microwave, refrigerator, etc. are all provided)

Friday Night:

We will continue with tradition and enjoy an excellent fish fry at the Polecat & Lace in downtown Minocqua located at 427 Oneida St. Cocktails at 6 PM and dinner upstairs at 6:30 PM.

Camping At Fire Fly Lake -
Friday, August 7, 2020

Fire Fly Lake Campground - Click for Google Maps Map
10269 County Hwy N
Boulder Junction WI 54512

After a very successful first-time camping weekend in the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest this year (2019), those who took part asked to have it repeated but possibly with a few extras…like hot showers!

For 2020, save the weekend of Aug. 7-9 for another camp out. We will be going to Firefly Lake Campground where there are hot showers and running water at a central building and pit toilets/hand pumps if you choose. There are no electric hookups in any of the sites.

Firefly has both reservable and drop-in sites. Your hosts (Floyd and Sara) will be roughly near sites 269/270, if you want to find a place close to the action. Reservations through WI DNR can be made up to 11 months in advance of the camping start date at https://wisconsin.goingtocamp.com/. This campground usually has open sites, but it is popular in August, so think about reserving early for the best locations.

Contact: questions to: Sara at 715-360-7253 or stbrede@gmail.com or Floyd at 715-680-1304 or floydkayakk@frontier.com.
