10th Annual New Year's Day Walk in the woods, Drinks and Dine Out
Thursday, January 1st, 2026
2:55 p.m. - Where to meet for the walk: Parking Lot of Schmeeckle Reserve, 2419 North Point Drive, Stevens Point.
Everyone interested in this group stroll through a snowy woods on the first day of 2026 should gather in the parking lot a bit before 3:00. We start the walk promptly because although we don't mind walking in the cold, we don't enjoy standing around in the cold! The walk around the lake is approximately one mile on clear, packed trails. Ski poles or walking sticks optional.
Beautiful walk, little to no wind. Walking at a pace that allows for conversations with others. We usually stop and climb the stairs to the tree platform for a group picture.
4:15 p.m. - Where to meet for a drink and a chat: Between the hike at Schmeekle and dinner at Tokyo Steak House many of the walkers and some of the non walkers meet up at Final Score, Bar and Grill. Address: 908 Maria Drive, Stevens Point.
4:45 p.m. - If you made your reservation and received a confirmation then there will be a chair for you at the Habachi Table at the Tokyo Steak House, 1617 Academy Ave., Stevens Point.
NOTE: Restaurant doors open at 4:30p.m.
Okay, here is the catch.
We have reserved 2 Habachi tables, each table seats 8 comfortably. There is a chance we could squeeze in another person or two. But without your name on the reservation list this year you risk having to sit at a regular table, separate from the group. However, if enough people RSVP early we might be able to reserve a 3rd Hibachi table.
Moral of this email:
We fill up every year. Best to RSVP NOW. Call or text Deb at 715-344-3402. Be sure you get a confirmation phone call or text in return.
Don't miss out on a great long running tradition to start the New Year with friends, laughter and FIRE!

It is time to make reservations for camping at Musky Lake in the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest with your CWN friends. Most of the activities will take place over the weekend of August 14-16, but several of us will be there earlier in the week with fun in mind. Whether you are a camper or just want to stop in for a day or two (Motel it!), we’ll be sharing a couple of group meals, biking the wonderful Heart of Vilas County Bike Trails, talking around the campfire, playing games, kayaking area waters, and possibly discussing a book.
More complete plans will be sent out in the CWN newsletter as we get closer to the date, but sites go fast, so book now.

Historical - Dance Lesson -
Friday, April 26, 2024 $5.00 Dance Lesson 6:15 to 6:45
6:15 p.m.
This is approximately three hours of paddling on a very popular Central Wisconsin River east/northeast of Wausau in the Ringle area.
It is an easy-to-moderate challenge through small riffles and rock gardens from the put-in on Club House Road to a really nice take-out on Ross Avenue in Weston. Water is generally shallow and clear, except after heavy rains. (It is unlikely this time of year, but if the water level rises too high for safety, we’ll notify everyone.)
We want to be on the water by noon, so be ready to shuttle at 11:30 a.m.
The put-in is a gravel parking area at the Eau Claire River crossing on Club House Road, Ringle. Directions: Hwy 29 E from Wausau to the Hwy J exit north, then right (east) on Schofield Ave/JJ/Ringle Ave for 3.9 miles, then left (north) on Club House Rd to the river. (Google Map does a good job of finding Club House Road, Ringle, WI, and showing the river crossing, if you like visuals.)
No dine out.
Note that there are no outhouses at the put-in. Bring water shoes, snacks, fluids and a life jacket.
If you do not have a kayak and want to paddle, contact Sara Bredesen 715-360-7253 or Dean Julian 715-680-0490. We have loaners.
RSVP RSVP by Wednesday, May 28 to either Dean or Sara at the numbers above.

In this scented case of mistaken identity and letter writing, two feuding perfume clerks have no idea that they are in love. Set in a 1930s European perfumery, we meet shop clerks, Amalia and Georg, who, more often than not, don't see eye to eye. After both respond to a "lonely hearts advertisement" in the newspaper, they now live for the love letters that they exchange, but the identity of their admirers remains unknown. Join Amalia and Georg to discover the identity of their true loves... and all the twists and turns along the way!
Ticket purchase is on your own. Tickets can be purchased on the UWSP Box Office website. Please select seats in the C12 – C7 area. Cost is $27 General or $24 Senior (62+).
